Terms of Service
Effective Date: 14 August 2026Novvel is a product of Ink An Epic Pte. Ltd. (UEN: 202512283C), a company incorporated in Singapore (“Novvel”, “we”, “us”, “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern individual customer access to and use of the Free, Lite, and Pro tiers of novvel.co, including all features, tools, graphic novel generation services, and related content (collectively, the “Service”). Novvel’s Managed/Concierge production service and Publisher partnership engagements are not self-serve products and are governed by a separate written agreement with Novvel, not by these Terms. By creating an account, uploading a manuscript, or making a payment, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
01Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service and make purchases. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement in your jurisdiction. If you are using the Service on behalf of a company or other legal entity, you represent that you have authority to bind that entity to these Terms.
1.1 Panel One exception. Users aged 13 and above who are participating in the Panel One programme may access limited Service features designed for that programme. Where such a user is under 18, the user’s parent or legal guardian must create and hold the account, accept these Terms on the minor’s behalf, and remain responsible for all payments made and content uploaded in connection with the account. Outside of the Panel One programme, the age requirement set out above applies without exception.
1.2 Scope of these Terms. These Terms apply only to the Free, Lite, and Pro tiers described in Section 8. Novvel’s Managed/Premier production service, and access by publishers, IP holders, literary agencies, or other enterprise partners, are governed by a separate written agreement with Novvel.
02Your Manuscript — Ownership and Representation
2.1 You must own or control all rights to the manuscript you upload. By uploading a manuscript or any written content to the Service (“Your Manuscript”), you represent and warrant that:
– You are the sole author or the exclusive rightsholder of Your Manuscript, or you have obtained all necessary licences, consents, permissions and waivers from the relevant rightsholder(s) to submit Your Manuscript for adaptation into a graphic novel;
– Your Manuscript does not infringe the copyright, trademark, moral rights, right of publicity, privacy rights, or any other intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party;
– Your Manuscript does not use the real names, logos, signage, or other trademarks of actual businesses, brands, products, or trademarked real-world locations and landmarks (including hotels, restaurants, retailers, and branded buildings or attractions) in a way likely to constitute trademark infringement, false endorsement, or trademark dilution when visually depicted in the graphic novel — unless you have confirmed you hold the rights to do so, or you have fictionalized such names and settings;
– Where Your Manuscript is an adaptation or derivative of another work (including fan fiction, translations, or retellings), you have confirmed that such use is permitted under applicable law or by written licence from the original rightsholder;
– Your Manuscript does not contain any material that is defamatory, obscene, discriminatory, unlawful, or otherwise objectionable under applicable law;
– You have the right to grant Novvel the limited licence described in Section 3 below.
2.2 Public domain works. If Your Manuscript is based on a work in the public domain, you represent that the specific edition or translation you have uploaded is itself in the public domain or that you own the rights to that edition.
2.3 You remain responsible. Novvel does not verify the ownership of manuscripts submitted by users. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your submission complies with all applicable copyright laws. Novvel accepts no liability for any infringement arising from content you upload.
03Licence You Grant to Novvel
By uploading Your Manuscript, you grant Novvel a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to:
– Read, process, analyse, and adapt Your Manuscript using AI tools and proprietary systems for the sole purpose of generating your graphic novel and, on Pro, providing the editorial feedback features described in Section 5.7;
– Store Your Manuscript and all generated outputs (panels, covers, character sheets, layouts) on our servers for the duration of your account;
– Display sample panels, covers, or short excerpts from your completed graphic novel in Novvel’s portfolio, website, marketing materials, investor materials, or case studies, on a non-commercial basis, unless you have opted out in writing;
– On Lite, display your completed graphic novel within Novvel’s public reading library (“Reader Universe”) for other users to read, on a non-exclusive, non-commercial basis, unless you opt out in writing under Section 10.4. On Pro, such display in Reader Universe occurs only where you opt in.
This licence does not transfer ownership of Your Manuscript to Novvel. All rights to Your Manuscript remain with you.
04Ownership of the Graphic Novel
4.1 You own the output. Subject to the tier-specific terms in this Section 4, upon full and final payment of all applicable fees, all right, title, and interest in and to the completed graphic novel (panels, cover, character designs, layouts, dialogue as generated from your manuscript) vests in you. Novvel makes no claim to ownership of your graphic novel.
4.2 Commercial rights (Pro). On Pro, you may publish, sell, distribute, license, or otherwise commercially exploit your graphic novel without restriction or further payment to Novvel, subject to these Terms.
4.3 Personal use only (Lite). On Lite, your graphic novel is for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not sell, license, distribute for commercial purposes, or otherwise commercially exploit a graphic novel created on Lite. If you later wish to commercially exploit a Lite story, you may upgrade that story to Pro by paying the difference between the Lite price already paid and the applicable Pro price for that story, rather than purchasing it again from scratch. Full commercial rights under Section 4.2 apply once that upgrade is complete.
4.4 Watermark (Lite). Downloaded Lite graphic novel files carry a Novvel watermark. Upgrading a story to Pro under Section 4.3 removes the watermark from that file without requiring the story to be regenerated.
4.5 Credit. You agree to include the following credit in your published graphic novel wherever author or publisher credits appear (e.g. copyright page, title page, back cover, or digital equivalent): “Graphic novel adaptation by Novvel.co.”
4.6 Novvel’s technology. Ownership of the Novvel platform, AI models, proprietary systems, workflows, and underlying technology (including any improvements or modifications developed in the course of generating your graphic novel) remains the sole and exclusive property of Ink An Epic Pte. Ltd. Nothing in these Terms transfers any rights in Novvel’s technology to you.
4.7 Aggregated learnings. Novvel may retain and use non-identifiable, aggregated data, anonymised prompts, workflow learnings, and technical outputs generated in the course of providing the Service for the purposes of improving its own internal systems, tools, and processes. By default, this may include anonymised manuscript content with identifying information removed. You may opt out of this at any time by emailing support@novvel.co; opting out stops future use but does not retroactively remove your contribution from aggregates already created. This is separate from, and unrelated to, the third-party AI providers described in Section 5.2, none of which train on your content.
4.8 Free previews. Content generated as part of a free preview under Section 8.1 remains viewable within the Service, and ownership under Section 4.1 does not vest unless and until you make a payment for Lite or Pro. Novvel may offer a separate paid option to download or print free preview content, at the rate set out on novvel.co/pricing. Purchasing that option grants you a limited licence to download and print that specific content for personal, non-commercial use only; it does not transfer commercial ownership, does not include the rights described in Section 4.2, and remains subject to the “Made with Novvel · novvel.co” attribution described in Section 10.2, which applies to this content in the same manner as shared pages.
05Use of Artificial Intelligence
5.1 Consent to AI processing. By uploading Your Manuscript, you expressly acknowledge and consent to the use of generative artificial intelligence tools, machine-learning models, data-driven algorithms, and proprietary software (collectively, “AI Tools”) for the purposes of creating, designing, illustrating, colouring, lettering, and otherwise rendering the visual and narrative elements of your graphic novel, including scene pacing, dialogue, and panel breakdown.
5.2 Third-party AI providers. Novvel integrates third-party AI services to generate your graphic novel and, on Pro, to provide the optional editorial feedback features described in Section 5.7. Novvel selects providers on the basis that they (a) do not use submitted content, by default, to train or improve their own models without a separate written agreement to the contrary, and (b) offer commercially reasonable contractual protection against third-party intellectual property claims arising from generated output. By using the Service, you consent to your manuscript and related content being processed by these providers solely for the purposes described in this Section 5. Novvel will not share your manuscript with third-party AI providers for training purposes. Novvel is not responsible for the independent policies or behaviour of third-party AI providers, whose own terms may govern processing carried out on their systems.
5.3 No guarantee of copyright status. The copyright status of AI-generated visual content varies by jurisdiction and is an evolving area of law. Novvel makes no representations regarding the copyright status of AI-generated visual elements under the laws of your jurisdiction. You are responsible for understanding the copyright implications in your jurisdiction before publishing or commercialising your graphic novel.
5.4 AI limitations. AI-generated content is probabilistic in nature. Novvel employs commercially reasonable measures to ensure that generated content does not knowingly infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties, including through filtering, curation, and style controls. However, Novvel cannot guarantee that outputs will be free of all similarity to existing works, and you acknowledge this inherent limitation.
5.5 Model flexibility. Novvel may add, remove, or change the underlying AI models or providers used to generate your graphic novel or provide editorial feedback at its discretion, and without notice, provided that any new or replacement provider meets the standard set out in Section 5.2.
5.6 No pass-through indemnity. Where a third-party AI provider offers Novvel indemnification or other protections regarding generated output, such protections run to Novvel as that provider’s direct customer and are not automatically extended to you. Your rights and remedies against Novvel in connection with AI-generated content are governed solely by Sections 13 (Disclaimer of Warranties) and 14 (Limitation of Liability) of these Terms.
5.7 Editorial feedback features (Pro only). Pro includes optional AI-generated editorial feedback on your manuscript (“Story Intelligence”) and on your completed graphic novel (“The Reader’s Report”). These features run a separate editorial-review process, using the AI Tools described in Section 5.1, and are subject to the standard set out in Section 5.2. This feedback is advisory only. You are under no obligation to act on it, and Novvel makes no warranty as to its accuracy, completeness, or usefulness. Story Intelligence is available up to two times per book, unlocking upon purchase of Chapter 1 and before image generation begins. One run of The Reader’s Report is included per book; additional runs are available at the rate set out on novvel.co/pricing. Access to these features applies to a single book and must be separately purchased for each subsequent book. These features are not available on Lite.
06Prohibited Content
You may not upload manuscripts or request the generation of graphic novels that contain or depict:
– Content that infringes the copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights of any third party;
– Sexual content involving minors or any content that sexualises, exploits, or endangers children;
– Graphic depictions of living private individuals without their consent, where the depiction is likely to violate that individual’s right of publicity, privacy, or personal data protection rights — provided that this restriction does not apply to (a) historical or public figures depicted in a biographical, editorial, documentary, or public-domain context, or (b) individuals depicted with their express written consent;
– Hate speech, or content that promotes discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or national origin;
– Content that glorifies, promotes, or provides instruction for violence, terrorism, or illegal activity;
– Defamatory content about identifiable real persons;
– Content designed to deceive, defraud, or mislead;
– Content that violates any applicable law in Singapore or in your jurisdiction.
Novvel reserves the right to decline, suspend, or terminate the generation of any graphic novel that violates these prohibitions, at its sole discretion, without refund of fees paid where the violation is attributable to content you uploaded.
07Copyright Complaints and Takedown Notice
7.1 Submitting a notice. If you believe that content on the Service infringes your copyright, you may submit a written notice to support@novvel.co containing: (a) a physical or electronic signature of the rights holder or an authorized representative; (b) identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed; (c) identification of the material claimed to be infringing and its location on the Service; (d) your contact information; (e) a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the rights holder, its agent, or the law; and (f) a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act on their behalf.
7.2 Novvel’s response. Upon receipt of a valid notice, Novvel may remove or disable access to the allegedly infringing material and will notify the affected user.
7.3 Counter-notice. A user who believes their content was removed in error may submit a counter-notice containing equivalent information. Novvel may, at its discretion, restore the material after a reasonable period unless the original complainant notifies Novvel that it has initiated legal action.
7.4 Repeat infringers. Novvel reserves the right to suspend or terminate the accounts of users found to be repeat infringers.
08Payments and Refunds
8.1 Free preview. Before making any payment, you may upload your manuscript, approve or edit generated character designs, and select from a limited set of available visual styles. Novvel will then generate a free preview consisting of a cover and a small number of story pages, viewable within the Service at no cost. Each free preview is a single, fixed output — Novvel does not offer revisions or regenerations for free previews. Novvel may limit the number of free previews a user may generate. A paid option to download or print free preview content is available on the terms set out in Section 4.8.
8.2 Lite pricing and payment. Lite is priced as a flat fee based on your manuscript’s word count, as set out on novvel.co/pricing. Manuscripts exceeding the word limit for Lite are not eligible for that tier and must use Pro instead. The Lite fee is payable in full before generation begins and covers your complete graphic novel; there is no chapter-by-chapter payment option on Lite. Lite payments are non-refundable except as set out in Section 8.5.
8.3 Pro pricing and payment. Pro is priced at the rate set out on novvel.co/pricing. Before each chapter is generated, you will receive a cost estimate based on that chapter’s length. Upon payment, Novvel will generate the chapter. Once generated, you may request edits to the chapter within the regeneration allowance for your tier (see Section 9.3). You may then proceed to purchase and generate the next chapter, and so on. At any time, you may commit to the full book at a 15% discount off the standard chapter rate; amounts already paid for chapters of that book are credited toward the full-book price. Pro chapter payments are non-refundable except as set out in Section 8.5.
8.4 Add-ons. Add-on features (panel regeneration packs, additional visual styles, custom visual style) are purchased separately at the time they are required. All add-on purchases are final and non-refundable once the relevant service has commenced.
8.5 Refunds. Because graphic novel generation involves significant computational and creative work that begins immediately once we start processing your manuscript, Lite and Pro payments are generally non-refundable once generation has commenced. If you believe your graphic novel does not meet the agreed specifications after using your available regenerations, you may write to support@novvel.co explaining the issue. Novvel will review the request and may, at its sole discretion, offer further revisions, a credit toward future work, or a partial refund.
8.6 Disputes. Any payment disputes must be raised within 30 days of the relevant invoice date by writing to support@novvel.co.
8.7 Founder’s Rate. On Lite, customers who purchase within the promotional window advertised on novvel.co/pricing, up to a maximum of the first 500 books sold — whichever limit is reached first — receive the founder’s discount off standard Lite pricing shown on novvel.co/pricing. On Pro, customers who register within the same promotional window, up to a maximum of the first 100 customers, receive the founder’s discount off standard Pro pricing for their first book only; this discount stacks with the 15% full-book-upfront discount described in Section 8.3. Founder’s Rate discounts do not apply to Managed/Concierge or Publisher engagements, which are outside the scope of these Terms.
09Visual Style and Creative Control
9.1 Style selection and lock. Certain visual styles are available only on specific tiers. The styles available to you for a given book are determined by the tier purchased for that book. Once selected, the visual style is locked for that book.
9.2 Additional and custom styles. At any point during or after a book’s creation, you may request that Novvel regenerate the complete story in an additional visual style from the styles available to your tier. This produces a second, independent copy of your book in the new style; you retain both versions. Pricing for an additional style depends on the length of the book and is set out on novvel.co/pricing. On Pro, you may also commission a custom visual style built specifically for your story, at the rate set out on novvel.co/pricing. Each additional or custom style purchased applies to the full book. For a subsequent book, style selection is again governed by the tier purchased for that book.
9.3 Panel regenerations. Each page includes a free panel regeneration allowance that varies by tier, as set out on novvel.co/pricing. Unused regenerations for a chapter roll over and remain available for use in subsequent chapters of the same book. Additional regenerations are available at the rates set out on the pricing page. Where a generated panel contains a clear rendering defect (for example, a character breaking model or a visibly malformed image), you may flag it for review; Novvel will credit the regeneration used to fix it back to your regeneration allowance, at Novvel’s discretion.
9.4 Approval gates (Pro). On Pro, you will be asked to approve each chapter before the next chapter commences generation. Generation of the next chapter will not begin until you provide that approval.
9.5 Final editing responsibility. Novvel’s adaptation includes scene pacing, first-draft dialogue, and panel breakdown, delivered in the agreed visual style. The final editing of dialogue, narration, and pacing of the graphic novel remains your responsibility.
10Sharing and the Public Reading Experience
10.1 Author-controlled sharing. On Free, Lite, and Pro, you may share your graphic novel or free preview with readers via private or public links, at your discretion. Outside of Reader Universe inclusion on Lite (see Section 10.4), Novvel does not share your graphic novel or free preview publicly without your explicit action. Sharing a link does not itself transfer any ownership or commercial rights beyond what your tier already provides under Section 4 — on Lite, shared content remains subject to the personal-use restriction in Section 4.3, and on Free, the free-preview terms in Section 4.8 continue to apply. In addition to any link you choose to share, Lite books are included in Reader Universe under Section 10.4 unless you opt out; Pro books are not included in Reader Universe unless you opt in.
10.2 Shared page attribution. All publicly shared reader-link pages hosted on the Novvel platform carry the attribution: “Made with Novvel · novvel.co.” This attribution cannot be removed from shared pages hosted on the Novvel platform, regardless of tier.
10.3 Reader comments. Readers who access your shared pages may leave comments without creating a Novvel account. You acknowledge that Novvel is not responsible for the content of reader comments, and Novvel reserves the right to remove comments that violate these Terms.
10.4 Reader Universe. On Lite, your completed graphic novel is included in Novvel’s public reading library (“Reader Universe”), where it may be read by other users, unless you opt out by writing to support@novvel.co. On Pro, inclusion in Reader Universe occurs only if you opt in. Display in Reader Universe does not affect your underlying ownership of the story under Section 4, and is a separate, non-exclusive licence granted under Section 3.
10.5 Future platform distribution. Novvel may in the future expand or introduce additional public reading or distribution platforms beyond Reader Universe. If we do, we will contact you separately with the terms of any such expanded distribution. This Section 10.5 does not affect the Reader Universe terms already described in Section 10.4.
11Account Suspension and Termination
11.1 By you. You may close your account at any time by writing to support@novvel.co. Closing your account does not entitle you to a refund of fees paid for work in progress or completed.
11.2 By Novvel. Novvel may suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service immediately, without notice, if:
– You breach any provision of these Terms, including uploading content you do not own or prohibited content;
– You fail to make any payment when due;
– Novvel is required to do so by law or court order.
11.3 Effect of termination. Upon termination, your right to access the Service ceases. Your graphic novel files will remain available for download for 30 days following termination, after which Novvel may delete them. You remain liable for all fees incurred prior to termination.
12Intellectual Property — Novvel’s Rights
The Novvel name, logo, and all related marks, the platform design, visual identity, style systems, AI workflows, and all content created by Novvel (excluding your graphic novel) are the exclusive property of Ink An Epic Pte. Ltd. and are protected by Singapore and international intellectual property law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any Novvel property without prior written consent.
13Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. Novvel makes no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, regarding:
– The uninterrupted or error-free operation of the Service;
– The fitness of generated graphic novel content for any particular purpose;
– The accuracy, completeness, or quality of AI-generated visual content;
– The copyright status of AI-generated visual elements under the laws of your jurisdiction.
Your use of the Service is at your own risk.
14Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
14.1 Novvel’s total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising under or in connection with these Terms shall not exceed the total fees paid by you to Novvel in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
14.2 Novvel shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential, special, incidental, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, whether arising in contract, tort, or otherwise.
14.3 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
15Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Novvel, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, actions, demands, losses, damages, costs (including reasonable legal fees), and expenses arising from:
– Your breach of these Terms;
– Your violation of any third party’s intellectual property rights in connection with a manuscript you uploaded;
– Your graphic novel content, including its publication, distribution, or commercialisation;
– Any claim by a third party arising from your use of the Service.
16Privacy
Novvel’s collection and use of your personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy at novvel.co/privacy. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of your personal data as described in that policy.
17Changes to These Terms
Novvel may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email to the address registered on your account or by a notice on the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service.
18Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Singapore. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Singapore. Before commencing legal proceedings, both parties agree to attempt good-faith resolution by written notice with a 30-day cure period.
19General
Entire Agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any order confirmation, constitute the entire agreement between you and Novvel regarding the Service.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full force.
No Waiver. Novvel’s failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of its right to enforce it in the future.
Assignment. You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without Novvel’s prior written consent. Novvel may assign its rights to any successor or affiliate.
