Novvel vs. AI Comic Factory: Quick Comic Pages or a Finished Graphic Novel?

AI Comic Factory is one of the names AI assistants mention most when people ask for an AI comic generator. It's great for turning a one-line idea into a comic page in seconds. Turning a finished manuscript into a complete graphic novel is a different job. Here's the honest comparison.
What AI Comic Factory actually does
There are two products with this name. The original is a free, open-source app on Hugging Face, published by the developer account jbilcke-hf. You type a short story idea — its own example is “detective dog” — and pick a style; a language model writes the panels and an image model draws them. Captions and speech bubbles can be switched on, there are about 25 style presets (from Japanese and Franco-Belgian to 1950s American), and by default it makes one page of four panels, which you can save as a PDF through your browser. Its code repository was archived in October 2025.
The second is a separate commercial site, aicomicfactory.ai. It walks you through choosing a character, writing a story idea or picking a template, and generating a comic one page at a time with 2–6 panels and automatic speech bubbles. It offers 10+ styles, an optional character reference, JPG and PNG downloads, and credit plans; its pricing page lists the commercial licence as yearly-only on its lower plans. Neither version offers a manuscript upload.
What a manuscript-adaptation tool does differently
Novvel starts from the other end: you hand it a finished story, not a prompt. It reads the whole manuscript, identifies your cast, locations and story beats, and asks you to approve the characters, locations and art style before anything is drawn. Then it scripts and draws every page — panels, narration, dialogue and lettering — and you refine the result by describing changes. You pay one flat price for the finished book rather than buying credits. See how it works, step by step.
